Townfield Primary School
Mercia tutor Shirley Aspden and Workforce Development Consultant Sandra Birchall attended a celebration assembly at Townfield Primary School in Prenton. The nine parent volunteer Teaching Assistants, completed their NVQ Level 2 and four of them also achieved both Adult Literacy and Numeracy qualifications.
Townfield primary school, places a great deal of value on the support given by parents and the contribution they make to the life of the school. It is also a specialist school for supporting children with hearing difficulties. Whilst on the course, the school employed one of the volunteers full-time and since completing the course another learner has been employed as a part-time Teaching Assistant.
Mercia is continuing to work with Townfield, Shirley is now tutoring a new group of twelve parent volunteer learners at the school.
