Mercia sponsors The Big Leap Award

MOWLLSix Mercia employees attended MOWLL’s Annual Award Ceremony at Liverpool’s Marina and Harbour Club where Paul Carden, Skills for Life and Teacher Training Manager presented The Big Leap Award.

Moving on With Life and Learning is a charity based at the University of Liverpool. The project is funded through a variety of sources and aims to provide a respectful learning environment for adults with a learning difficulty. Self advocates at MOWLL have in the past been excluded from mainstream education, employment and social opportunities. Working in partnership with MOWLL, Mercia Partnership delivered adult literacy and numeracy learning programmes to the centre.

At the Award Ceremony the Mercia team presented certificates in literacy and numeracy to the successful candidates. Mercia also sponsored and presented The Big Leap Award to Julie Ann McNally whom the tutors believed had made the most personal progress during the course. Julie Ann said of her award “This is great” and it now has pride of place in her living room.

Lynn Kelly, Workforce Development Senior Manager at Mercia said of the evening: “The Awards were a fantastic celebration of all that has been achieved through the partnership between MOWLL and Mercia. We were delighted to see so many adults receiving their certificates and hope that this success will encourage them to continue to develop their learning skills”

Mercia are continuing to work with MOWLL, a new group of learners are currently undertaking further literacy and numeracy qualifications.
